  • "Summer you are a very talented artist, I mean you are talented beyond Black Rock. You are talented beyond this community. It is important for you to go out and be challenged/taught by a real artist," (3:26-3:36).
  • Summer says she has to take care of her grandma before she follows her dream (3:00-4:00).
  • Ethos (Ethical Appeal)
  • "I am a better person now, I am stronger" (2:30-2:40).
  • " I don't like drawing in pencil. It teaches me life lessons" (9:30).
  • Appeal - Everybody faces obstacles on the way to their goal but some are more severe than others and can change your life.
  • The text relates to the appeal because Summer had to take care of her grandparents instead of following the path to her goal. The audio from Summer relates to the appeal because going to the art institute is her number one goal. The background image is relevant to the message because it shows Summer's goal is art school with the art stand in the background.
  • Pathos (Emotional Appeal)
  • How: The principal tries to convince Summer that she needs to try to enter the art institute. She uses knowledge and authority to convince Summer. Why: Summer has a very special talent and has to make a wise decision on if she wants to deal with her grandma or go to the art institute.
  • How: Summer has been through really bad stuff in her life. She does not regret the mistakes and bad situations. Why: Summer is a credible source when it comes to encountering obstacles in her life because she has been through a lot and has experience with difficult situations. She does not regret any of the obstacles because they have made her a stronger and better person.
  • How: Summer's artwork is shown and grabs the attention of viewers (1:38). Her work shows the talent she has. Why: Summer's picture grabs the viewer's attention because it is a beautiful image. The picture shows the talent she has with art and it makes sense why her goal is to be an artist.
