Storyboard Text

  • Hello there, I am Parry the Praying Mantis. today we're going to learn all about the Nitrogen Cycle.
  • This is where it all begins. Nitrogen is all around in the air we breathe. To continue the cycle, this nitrogen has to be converted into ammonium.
  • Fixation
  • Nitrification
  • Welcome to the soil! Plants can't use ammonium, so here the bacteria changes it to Nitrates that plants can use.
  • Now, the plants absorb the nitrates through their roots and put them to use.
  • Assimilation
  • Ammonification
  • Once the plant dies, decomposers turn the nitrogen back to ammonium so the cycle can continue.
  • Here, bacteria in the soil puts the extra nitrogen back into the air, completing the cycle.
  • Denitrification
