Storyboard Text

  • Alas, I have finally reached India
  • In 1492, Christopher Columbus set sail across the Atlantic Ocean in search for a western sea route to Asia.
  • Instead of arriving in India, Christopher Columbus stumbled upon the Americas. The "New World" is the area of the Americas that was discovered by Europeans
  • Religious Freedom!
  • So, why are you guys here?
  • The 3 countries to claim most of the "New World" were Spain France and England.
  • Gold, god and glory were England's motivation to colonize in the "New World." "Gold" represents the profit Europeans hoped to make from trading. "God" refers to the religious freedom in the New World. It also refers to the colonists desire to convert Native Americans to Christianity. "Glory" is to gain popularity and power.
  • Many English moved to North America to escape religious persecution. North America was established by English men to support religious tolerance.
  • The Triangle Trade was a trading system in which goods from England are shipped to Africa in exchange for slaves. Those slaves are then shipped to West Indies and exchanged for tobacco, rum and sugar. Those goods are then shipped back to England.  England profited from goods receiving slaves. African slaves were harmed from it because they were forced into labor and had no rights. Native Americans were also harmed from it because they were forced to leave from their homeland and killed by diseases and warfare.
