Thomas was sitting down at the cafeteria at Lindenwood University in Saint Charles when Carlos ,the top high jumper bet him that he couldn't clear 6'6 in a high jump competition
Thomas cleared 6'6 easily. After Mattis set the bar up to seven feet and thomas cleared it without a semblance of graceful high jump technique .The coach invited Thomas to go to a track meet.
Thomas qualified for the national championships . He cleared 7’0.25” for a new Lindenwood university record. The coach forced Thomas to stop out of concern that he might hurt himself.
In 2008 ,Thomas was examine by the scientist Masaki Ishikawa .Ishikawa noticed Thomas long legs and found out that he had a giant's Achilles tendon, which help him jump higher.
Hunter found that a longer Achilles tendon allows an athlete to get more power from the compression and subsequent decompression of the springlike tendon. The more power that is stored in the spring when it is compressed, the more you'll get.
Ishikawa and Hunter both said that the Achilles tendon helps explain how two athletes could arrive at the same place and one doing it over twenty years and one with less than a year.
