  • The reader is introduced to the narrator, as a madman in a sort of way, and the old man. The narrator is trying to dissuade the reader to think he is not insane. He is living with the old man, and the story takes place in the old man's room.
  • Climax
  • The narrator doesn't like the old man's vulture eye but not the old man himself. The narrator is insane.
  • Falling Action
  • Poe doesn't like the eye; therefore, he decides to kill the old man. He makes a plan to kill him.
  • Reslution
  • “Yes! Yes, I killed him. Pull up the boards and you shall see! I killed him. But why does his heart not stop beating?! Why does it not stop!?”
  • Poe kills the old man by suffocating him. Once the old man dies the narrator disfigures the body, and puts him under the floor.
  • The neighbor hears a strange noise coming from the old man; therefore, they call the police. The police come and investigate the house.
  • The narrator starts to hear a strange noise that he thinks is the old man's heart beat. He ends up confessing.
