  • Hamartia
  • "I became angry and struck the coachman who was pushing me"  "And then i killed them all"
  • Anger
  • Hubris
  • "The oracles, they are worthless!"
  • "Go out of my house at once and be damned, i did not know you would talk like a fool"
  • "I live in the service of Apollo, not in your, not Creon"
  • Peripeteia
  • "O,O,O, light of the sun, let me look upon you no more. Cursed is my life"
  • Oedipus shows Hamartia when his temper betrayed him every time he tries to escape from his destiny. In scene 2 and 1 when he killed the old man and insults Teresias and the gods. This is Hamartia that causes his life a downfall to fulfill  his unfortunate fate.
  • Anagnorisis
  • "I pitied, and thought i could send it off to another country. but he saved for the most terrible troubles"
  • Oedipus shows hubris when he though that he could be smarter than the gods, when he had that belief that he could scape from the prophecy. In scene  3 when he told Jocasta the truth, that he have runaway from his destiny and also insults Apollo to make it worse.
  • Nemesis
  • "O oedipus unhappy Oedipus! that is all i can call you...the last thing i shall ever call you"
  • Oedipus shows peripeteia when he discovered the truth and all his life began to be a mess. He was the king but then just a simple, poor, unfortunate and blind manwith nothing. In scene 4 and exodus when he discovers the truth and could not avoid it.
  • Catharsis.
  • "Behold oedipus, he know he knew the famous riddle and rose to greatness, his good fortune was the envy of all"
  • Oedipus shows anagnorisis when the messenger and the shephered told them what they knew and he had a bad reaction. In scene 4, when he found out that prophecy become truth. This is anagnorisis because Oedipus discovered the critical prophecy that without wanting, it changes his life.
  • "How was it that yoy gave the baby to the old man?"
  • "If you are the man he says you are, you were born to misery"
  • Oedipus shows nemesis when he ends up marrying her mother and having kids with her. In scene 2,3 and for when he without knowing the truth and triying to escape from his destiny he anyways fulfill it when he married Jocasta and when he killed his father.
  • "But surely i must fear my mother"s bed"
  • Oedipus rex shows catharsis when the audience was shocked because all the tragedy that had happened, Jocasta dead and the king "the great Oedipus" blind and unfortunated. In scene 4 and exodus, when the second messenger told to the chorus the bad and "unexpected" news . This is catharsis because everybody pity that terrible tragedy.
  • "See him now and see how the waves of disaster have swallowed him!"
