  • Penguins and their Natural Selection
  • Over-Production of Offspring
  • Ahhh! there are so many of us:)
  • Variation
  • Today, I am going to be explaining the process of natural selection within penguins and how they have adapted to be able to survive in their enviornment without gaining any disadvantages!
  • Selection
  • On no! It's to hard to getup and fly I wont make it! :(
  • Penguins lay two eggs in their life time, considering that they live anwhere from the ages of 6 to 20 depending on what species they are, in this case we are talking about little penguins and they live up to about six years. As they live for a short period of time, and as adults they are laying two penguin eggs within their lifetimes. This is leading to over production of the species, and we don't know who will survive or not until the step of selection.
  • Adaptation
  • We made it out alive and lost the polar bear, thanks to our great adaptation we made where we can swim! There are no disadvantages!
  • Believe it or not, penguins did used to have the ability to fly, eons ago, with their closet relative of the "Procelariiformes". However, penguins have lost their ability to fly and there was variation in the offspring of penguins between flying and swimming.
  • THE END!
  • In the selection process of natural selection it is when the best adapted animals to the enviornment are most likely to survive. In this case the two penguins that can swim are going to survive while the penguin with the ability to fly will not survive because it takes too long for him to get up and launch himself off to fly. Scientist belive that penguins had to adapt and give up their ability to fly because the process took to long.
  • GO! GO! GO!
  • Look and polar bear we have to get out of here! I can swim so I can escape and I may be able to survive!
  • These penguins inherited the charcteristic of swimming from their parents while some penguins inherited the characteristic of flying from their parents and that one relative of theirs. The characteristic of swimming is a better solution for the penguins in order to escape form predators, and now they have an advantage in reproduction!
  • All the penguins can swim now and their process of natural selection has past and they have all now adapted to where the population of penguins has the charcteristic of swimming and not flying. The penguins we know today!
