The Catholic Church was becoming corrupt. They were telling their people that in order for God to forgive their sins, they would have to give the church their indulgences.
Martin Luther did not agree with this practice. He believed that the Church was not living by the bible and doing as God would wish. He also believed that the Catholic church was in possession of too much money and that the Pope had too much power.
Because of his disagreement, Martin Luther then decided to write a list of 95 statements were the Catholic Church went wrong. He called this The Ninety-Five Theses.
On the 31st of October in 1517, at the age of 34, Martin Luther nailed the list of Ninety-Five Theses to the door of the Castle Church at Witternburg
