1824- John Quincy Adams and the Corrupt Bargain
1828- Tariff of Abomination
1828- Jackson 1st election
John Quincy Adams wins the election of 1824, but the win was known as a 'Corrupt Bargain." Jackson won the majority, but Adam won by being voted in by the House of Representatives under provisions.
1836- Trail of Tears
The Tariff of Abominations put taxes on imports. The north did not mind the change because they benefited from this, but South Carolina would not take this due to the economy and threatened to secede. In the white house each politician had a different intake on the nullification of each state. It was soon worked out with a compromise proposed by Henry Clay.
The country is changed under the rule of Jackson. He expands the voting rights of men, he is known as the "Common Man," and he creates a spoils system within the cabinet and awards his closest friends to important political jobs.
Jackson issues the Indian Removal Act of 1830. The Cherokees are kicked off their land in Georgia and have to walk all the way to present day OK. Over 1/4 of the Indians died and the journey is known as the Trail of Tears.
