A widow and her two daughters lived in the middle of a grove and owned chickens, it was barely a farm but it contained one of the most prestige chickens.
On this farm, there were eight chickens and hens. Only one of them was a chicken, his name was Chanticleer, he owned and loved seven hens. Some were his sisters and some were his lovers.
Chanticleer was in love with only one of the hens and here name was Mademoiselle Pertelote. She had the lightest color out of all the hens and she was in love with him too.
Come down, I won't harm you! I just want to hear your beautiful voice!
One night, while all the hens were asleep, Chanticleer had a terrible nightmare that he was being chased by a fox who wanted to kill him. The next morning Pertelote called him a coward and tells him no to be afraid of his dream.
One day, the wolf luered Chanticleer out by singing. Then grabbed him by the throat and began to run with him. The widow, her two daughters, and their three dogs all chase after the wolf.
The fox got far into the woods when he dropped Chanticleer. This gave him the chance to escape into a nearby tree. The fox tried to get him down with flattery but Chanticleer knew better.
