- the acadians refused to sign a oath of allegiance to the british, which would make them loyal to the crown. but the acadians refused so the british decided to deport them.

- Some acadians managed to escape the deportion into the forests and find refugees.
- The acadians on the ship got very sick due to starvation and squalid conditions. Thousands died in the process.
