Storyboard Text

  • John Sanford owned a slave named Dred Scott in 1856.
  • Dred Scott was later brought to Illinois and then Wisconsin to continue working.
  • Why haven't I thought of this before? This is the best thing since sliced bread!
  • Eventually Scott was brought back to Missouri and he started to wonder if what Sanford did was legal. After some thinking he concluded it what he did was illegal.
  • Why was i not freed from slavery if I had traveled to two free states?
  • Dred Scott made a bold decision to sue his master in attempt to be free.
  • I can do this. I am gonna be free and I know Francis Murdok will help me.
  • Meanwhile in the court house...
  • In every court session there was no verdict and the voting was tied.
  • -He is property! -No he is not, give him freedom. -This is a mockery! -You guys are both wrong!
  • Roger B. Taney
  • Order in the court, order, order.
  • After 11 years passed it was decided by the Supreme Court that Scott was still a slave because he was the property of Sanford.
  • HAHAHA! Nice try, but it's time to get back to work you fool.
  • This created a lot of controversy...
