  • I am using an example of positive punishment. Positive punishment is when something is presented after a behavior and typically will decrease that behavior in an individual.
  • This individual here has been laying in bed all day instead of studying for the test they have tomorrow
  • The behavior was not studying for their test.
  • The next day...
  • They are in their class taking the test and cannot remember how to do these problems
  • Two days later the teacher calls the student into her office to discuss why she dd so poorly on the test
  • I hope you understand that I am going to have to fail you for this test. I hope that for the ext one you study and try harder.

  • What will happen when my parents find out
  • The something that presented itself after the behavior is failing the test and disappointing their parents
  • Your teacher called and told us you failed your test we are very disappointed.
  • To avoid failing their next quiz and disappointing their parents again they began studying for their tests.
  • This is where we see the decrease in that behavior.
  • We are so proud of you for getting a 100% on your test
  • Studying for their test resulted in them passing their test and making their parents proud.
