One of the other intolerable/coercive acts was the Massachusetts government act, passed on 20 May 1774 in which all parliament members of the colonial congress were appointed by the king, and not democratically elected, by the people. The acts also placed restrictions on when town meetings could be held.
All members of the congress, must now be selected by the king.
The British had imposed many acts on the colonists, to gain money to pay of debts after the French and Indian war. The colonists hated the acts and felt that it was an outright attempt to make money off them. The colonists had no representative in the parliament they no say on the acts, so they felt as though they were being unfairly taxed. The first act which the colonists really took offense to was the Stamp Act which placed a tax on all paper-based items, for example, newspapers, letters, stamps and even playing cards. This was the fact which the colonists protested, and rallied against. This lead to a series of acts, which finally lead to the coercive act in which, the British aimed to isolate Massachusetts from the other colonies. The other colonies came together and formed the First Continental Congress,to form a resistance against the British rule.
