Declaration of Independence The Declaration of Independence was a document officially declaring the United State’s independence from the British empire, and now wanting to be seen as 13 independent states. The 13 states were united together to form the United States of America. It was ratified in 1776.
Articles of Confederation The Articles of Confederation were the first constitution of the United States. It showed basic laws and had a weak central government leaving most to the states individual governments. It was very problematic, leading it to be eventually replaced. It was ratified in 1781
Constitutional Convention The Constitutional Convention was called together in 1787 because of the unsuccessful and unpopular “Articles of Confederation“, they had planned on changing and revising it but ended with a whole new document at the end, known as the Constitution.
The Virginia Plan The Virginia Plan was the proposal for the new Constitution calling for proportional representation in both houses of a bicameral Congress.

The New Jersey Plan The New Jersey Plan was the proposal for the new Constitution calling for equal representation by state, regardless of population, and a unicameral legislature.

The Great Compromise The Great Compromise is the term for the change that reconciled the debates at the Constitutional Convention calling for states proportional representation in the house and equal representation in the Senate.
