  •  One major theme of "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street" by Rod Serling is Prejudices and Suspicion can lead to violence and Chaos, the reason why this is the big idea is that when Woman One said that she saw Les Goodman out of his home searching for something in the sky, lifted up a lot of suspicion about him, and when everyone went to him to confront him, he said they should keep their distance or he would turn the scene into an actual nightmare. To continue, once Charlie shot Pete Van Horn, everyone including his best friend Steve started going violent and got suspicious of him too, after all that mess, they threw a rook at his house and hurt him, Once all that mess had started everyone started going nuts, looking for scapegoats and causing chaos all around the neighborhood, to conclude to look for a scapegoat and someone to judge starts violence and chaos.
