|"August meets Summer"
|By Israel Mattocks|
My project depicted the scene from Wonder in which Summer sits with Auggie without being instructed to, because I like how it conveys the saying: "When given a choice between being right and being kind, choose kind." Summer chose kind. She didn't have to sit with Auggie; nobody told her to. She sat with Auggie because she wanted real friends, who would choose kind.|
WONDER "August meets Summer" Israel Mattocks
August Pullman sits alone at lunchtime at his new school, lonely.
Summer, a girl from his ELA class, sits down next to him and introduces herself.
Hi! I'm Summer.
August suspects that Summer was instructed to sit with August, but Summer firmly denies.
You don't have to be my friend. Mr. Tushman talked to you, didn't he?
No, he didn't!
So why did Summer sit with August?
Then why are you here?
Because I want some nice friends for a change.
Summer and August want the same thing--genuine friends.
Shaking hands, August and Summer officially became friends.
