Storyboard Text

  • 1840 (Sugar Industry)
  • We'll pay you lots of money to ally with America
  • What do you want? My sugar?
  • We're going to make you an offer you can't refuse!
  • 1874 (King Kalakuau)
  • Yes! I am now the  King of Hawaii!
  • .......
  • What about America....?
  • 1887 (Bayonet Constitution)
  • Okay! Okay! There, I just finished...
  • Good... Now it's official. We have Hawaii!
  • Sign the Constitution or you'll regret it!
  • Starting in the 1840's America became very interested in the things Hawaii had to offer. The government gave tremendous offers to the sugar farmers and as soon as the Civil War was over, profits began to swell.
  • (1890) William McKinley
  • By this time King Kakuluau has become the king of Hawaii, but it doesn't really matter because America has already taken it over at this point.
  • 1891 (Queen Liliiuokalani)
  • This is getting ridiculous...
  • Shortly after Kalakuau became King, America held him at gunpoint and forced him to sign the "Bayonet Constitution" saying that Hawaii was officially allied with America.
  • 1893 (Grover Clevland)
  • Hawaii is our's sir!
  • After the Civil War, Congress passed the Mckinley act and
  • Eventually the throne was passed down to Queen Liluokalani and she was ready to fight because she believed that Hawaii was being ruined by foreign interference.
  • And I plan on doing something about
  • Foreign interference is ruining Hawaii..
  • In 1983 America  elected Grover Cleveland as the president. He was a popular imperialist and thought  America had acted horribly. So he withdrew the annexiation.
  • No! I changed my mind. We will not control Hawaii anymore!
  • What you say goes sir!
