Storyboard Text

  • "Mrs. Granger, you have so many dictionaries in this room, ... where did all those words come from?"
  • Nick Allen attempts to stall for time in Mrs. Granger's English class on the first day of school. It backfires and he is assigned an oral report on the history of the dictionary.
  • As Nick and Janet walk home from school, Nick gets an idea. Why doesn't he come up with is own word?
  • "Frindle? What's a frindle?"
  • "Here's your... frindle."
  • "You'll find out!"
  • Janet, Nick, John, Pete, Dave, and Chris sign an oath to use the word "frindle" instead of "pen" and to do everything possible so that others will too.
  • "From this day on and forever, I will never use the word PEN again. Instead, I will use the word FRINDLE, and I will do everything possible so others will, too."
  • The group manages to successfully spread the word, "frindle" around the school.
  • "Mrs. Granger, I forgot my frindle."
  • "I have an extra you can borrow, Nick!"
  • The "frindle" story becomes a huge story in Nick's town and later on a national sensation!
  • "So tell me, Nick, why did you make up this new word, frindle?"
  • When Nick is a junior in college he receives a brand-new eighth-edition dictionary which contains the word frindle, Mrs. Granger's favorite pen, and a letter from Mrs. Granger that explains that she was supporting him all along. In response, Nick sends her a new gold pen and a letter as well. He also creates a permanent trust fund for college scholarships in her name.
  • Dear Nicholas, If you are reading this letter, it means that the word frindle has been added to the dictionary. Congratulations.
