Orpheus was a legendary musician who could entrance anyone and anything with his beautiful music. He was married to Eurydice, a beautiful wood nymph.
As Eurydice walks towards Orpheus, she suddenly falls to the ground. She was bitten by a snake in the grass and she died!
Orpheus is struck with grief so he decides to go to Hades to beg him to let Eurydice stay with him for a few more years on Earth. He has to play his lyre in order to get past all of the monsters in the underworld.
Orpheus was told that if he wanted to bring back Eurydice, he must walk and not look back otherwise Eurydice will stay in the underworld forever! Just as he is about to step out of the underworld, out of temptation he looks back and Eurydice falls into the underworld forever!
Orpheus was so sad and alone that he just plays sad songs on his lyre. He is overcome the grief at the loss of Eurydice.
When Orpheus died, he was buried at the foot of Mount Olympus. He met Eurydice in the underworld and never left her side.
