da Gama sets sail from Portugal, hoping to find a sea route to India.
da Gama uses the strong winds to set a course south along the coast of Africa. He then rounds the Cape of Good Hope, and heads toward the Indian Ocean.
da Gama arrives in Mozambique, but the Sultan does not appreciate his visit. The crew have skirmishes with the local people. He is asked to leave.
In Mombasa and Malindi, with the help of a local navigator, da Gama was able to cross the Indian Ocean and reach the coast of Calicut India.
Before they even reach India, most of the crew is infected with scurvy.
He finally arrives in India, but is advised to leave soon, because of the impatient monsoon season. When da Gama returns to Portugal, he is greeted as a hero.
