I was naive and chose to go to a college as expensive as Stanford and soon I couldn’t see the point in going to college and taking the classes I was not interested in.
I didn’t have a dorm room, so I had to manage by sleeping on the floor in friends’ rooms. For food, I returned Coke bottles for the 5¢ deposits and for a good meal once a week I would go to the Hare Krishna temple and walk seven miles across town.
I learned about serif and sans serif typefaces, about what makes great typography great, and about varying the amount of space between different letter combinations.
