The law of inertia is Newton's first Law of Motion
It states that if a body is at rest or moving at a constant speed in a straight line, it will remain at rest or keep moving in a straight line at constant speed unless it is acted upon by a force.
For example there is a book on the table. It is at rest. It will not move unless you move it.
Inertia is best defined as resistance of an object to change its motion.
An object at rest tends to stay at rest. And acceleration is absent in law of inertia
