Everybody knew that the Holy Grail Could never be stolen. It was guarded by the fiercest warriors who never left it out of their sight. But one night, during a terrible storm, it was stolen.
The King sent out a proclamation to all the villages asking that they search for the Grail. He said that whomsoever finds the Grail will get his only Daughter's hand in marriage. Many men went on the journey, but none came back.
Alex is a blacksmith on the edge of the country. It took many months for the proclamation to reach his town. When he saw the princess, he instantly fell in love with her. He vowed to himself that he would go in search of the Grail. His search took him to the edge of the woods, where, on a dark and stormy night, he too refuge in an abandoned cottage.
Alex was quite surprised when he stepped inside to find himself in a long dark hallway, faced by a talking cat.
My name is Rothgasto. I am the guardian of the true Grail. I will not let you past until you can prove you are worthy.
Alex didn't know what to do. Then he saw a fire further on in the hallway. He knew exactly what he must do. Using only the few pieces of metal he had taken with him, he moulded it into a beautiful piece of work and showed it to the cat. In response the cat gave Alex the Holy Grail and Alex left the cottage.
When Alex got to the palace, word of his arrival had already spread. He was accepted gratefully into the King's court, where he recounted his tale and gave the King the Grail. The princess who had been watching him all this time, realised that she loved him and accepted his hand in marriage. But Alex wasn't quite finished being a blacksmith. As his last project, he created a sword called Excalibur.
