The hero I chose was Nancy Wake. Wake was born on August 30th 1912 in New Zealand. When she was only 20 months old her and her family moved to Australia.
When Nancy was only 16 she ran away from home.
Soon she was able to find a job as a nurse. Windfall allowed Wake to move from Australia to Europe in 1932.
Wake ended up settling in Paris where she became a journalist. As the rise German Fascism came into play that was the basis of Wake's stories.
In the 1940's Wake and her husband started helping out allied servicemen and Jewish refugees from France to the neutral country of Spain.
In 1943 Wake joined the SOE / Special Operation Executive. She went to training but came back in April 1944 to help organise the Resistance before D-Day. Wake as in charge to organise parachute drops of arms and equipment. She learned that her husband was killed by the gestapo in 1943. After the war Wake couldn't live in post war Europe and moved back to Australia.
