  • Intra-psychic Stage
  • I don't think I can do this anymore, something needs to change.
  • Dyadic Stage
  • Don't you even want to try and fix this??
  • I think its better if we went seperate ways
  • No, we can't go on this like Jack

  • One person becomes dissatisfied within their relationship and begin to weigh up the pros and cons. Also evaluating these against alternatives. Starting to make plans for the future.
  • Social Stage
  • You're so better better than him, you deserve better
  • The dissatisfaction is now shared with their partner. This is shared through confrontation and their are two possible outcomes: breakup or repair the relationship.
  • Grave dressing Stage
  •

  • The break-up is now public. Partners seek support from others outside of the relationship. Friends will now act differently about the partner: some will provide reassurance, others will be judgmental and blame the other person. Some friends will push the relationship towards break-up, others try to help and repair it.
  •  Yeah, you're way better off without him
  • Babes you don't need him
  • When the relationship is over individuals need to come to terms with it. Partners will create a story that enables them to maintain their 'social credit', by blaming the other person for the break-up. They may re-write history to try to lessen feelings of loss.
