Grendel snatched up thirty men , smashed them unknowingly in their beds and ran out with their bodies. (37-39)
“Ha this will be the last one I snatch up and take with me”
Beowulf heard how Grendel filled nights with horror and quickly commanded a boat fitted out.(112-113)
“Grendel has filled nights with terror in Hrothgar, I have to help them!”
“I drove five great giants into chains, chased all of that race from the earth....”
Beowulf boasts to the people of Hrothgar, and tells them about the battles he has already been through. (151-159)
The battle was over and Beowulf was granted glory, and Grendel escaped but wounded.(340-344)
Grendel escaped, but wounded as he was could flee to his den, his miserable hole at the bottom of the marsh, only to die.
To save her life she moved still faster, took a single victim and fled from the hall. (410-411)
“ Since they killed my son, I’m taking the kings closest friend.”
Beowulf accepted Hrothgar’s challenge, and the king and his men accompany the hero the dreadful lair of Grendel’s mother, and wins the battle(521-525)
... and struck with all the strength he had left, caught her in the neck and cut it through, broke bones and all. Her body fell to the floor, lifeless, the sword was wet with her blood, and Beowulf rejoiced at the sight.
