In the beginning of the book Lennie and George sit around the fire and discuss their dream of one day owning their own ranch and living of the land there. This scene symbolizes the American dream that many people share across America. Everybody has a dream and you determine the outcome of your own dream.
THE END OF A ERA (CH 6 pg 106)
This scene shows the shooting of Candies old dog by Carlson. The dog had become too old to take care of itself. The shooting foreshadows the later death Lennie. In life sometimes there will be moments when your dreams get compromised.
In this scene Lennie strangles Curley's wife to death after she finds a pup Lennie had killed. He doesn't mean to kill her he gets scared she will tell George what he has done. H;e doesn't know his own strength. This is the climax of the story or the highest point. You can be the downfall of your own dreams. You are the cause of the success or failure.
George tells Lennie to look away and imagine that he can see the dream in the distance. He then shoots Lennie in the back of the skull and kills him. This is also very symbolic of the failure of their dream. Now that Lennie is dead so is the dream. This shows that dreams will always fail nobody's dreams come true.
