Theodore Roosevelt was a young president that viewed his job as being a "steward of the people". Teddy's young presidency brought energy to the US and he managed lead the US to make many progressive reforms.

Teddy was considered a "bully pulpit" meaning he would take his opportunities to speak out and be heard on the issues that he thought was important.
After reading "The Jungle", he was utterly disgusted. Teddy decided that there must be more regulations set for food and drug companies. This was saving many lives that had no reason to be put in danger.
The national reclamation act serves to preserve the US's natural wildlife and landmark. Companies are also monitored and restricted on what they can do in nature in order to well preserve it.
During Teddy's presidency he made sure that no one company would become an overly dominant power house. This prevention of monopolies helped keep a more balanced economy.
After Taft was president Teddy wanted to step back in and reclaim his old posistion and in order to do so he started his own party of progressive republicans called the Bull Moose party
