  • hubris: pride/ self-confidence
  • Peripeteia: a sudden reversal of fortune
  • Romeo's impulsivity, his fatal flaw, causes many troubles for himself.
  • Anagnorisis: a critical discovery
  • Romeo has self-confidence because he feels as though nothing can go wrong in his life.
  • Nemesis: the inescapable agent of downfall
  • Fortune was reversed when Romeo killed Tybalt and Prince exiles Tybalt. 
  • Catharsis: releasing repressed emotion
  • Romeo discovered Juliet "dead", which wasn't really true.
  • The inescapable agent of downfall is poison. Romeo purchases the poision which leads to his downfall.
  • Romeo releases emotion when he takes his own life.
