" As the music built to a crescendo, Anorak stretched out his right hand. There, resting in his open palm, was the Copper Key, the item for which millions of people had been searching for the past five years." pg 84

"All I could think about was that Aech and Art3mis had now both beaten me to the Jade Key. And getting the high score on this Pac-Man Game on Archaide obviously hadn't gotten me any closer to finding it myself. I really had been wasting my time here." Pg 224
The major theme of this story is that of perseverance. Wade and the other characters spend five years before finding anything about the first key to find the Easter egg. Without perseverance, the characters lose precious time in the race to find the Easter egg.
Theme Development #3
"This was a complete joke, of course. Indents were never able to pay off their debt and earn their release. Indents were never able to pay off their debt and earn their release. Once they got finished slapping you with pay deductions, late fees, and interest penalties, you wound up owing them more each month, instead of less. Once you made the mistake of getting yourself indenture, you would probably remain indentured for life." Pg 278
This scene where Wade finds the first key and sees that his perseverance pay off. He learns that he is the first person to defeat Acererak in a game of joust. He soon begins his quest to find the rest of the keys to win the egg.
This them is further developed whenever Wade and no one else can find the next key. Wade decides to take a break and focus on other things, and it bites him in the butt when everyone else finds the next key. His lost perseverance costs him valuable time in trying to find the key.
Wade shows lots of perseverance when he risks his life to win the contest. To do this he must infiltrate an evil corporation by selling himself into being an indentured servant, which is like being a slave. He eventually steals the info he needs and luckily escapes to try to win the contest. Without his willingness to risk it all to win, he would not have been able to come close to winning.
The solution for the theme is that Wade eventually wins the contest and finds all the keys and gates. Without his perseverance to guide him to victory and lose. Lots of other characters fail to win because of their lack of perseverance to lead them and keep pushing them.
