  • Get it?
  • There were many examples of foreshadowing in the book "The Name of This Book is a Secret" .  One example of this is on pages 17-21 when Gloria dropped off the "Symphony of Smells".  This was an example of foreshadowing because Cass and Max-Ernest were unaware of all of the trouble that the "Symphony of Smells" would get them into.
  • One example of irony was on page 253 when Max-Ernest said that Ms. Mauvais is not that bad. This is an example of irony because before, Max-Ernest was totally against Ms. Mauvais before and he was on Cass' side.  Then, later in the novel, Max-Ernest realized how terrible Ms. Mauvais really was but by then, it was too late...
  • One example of characterization was on when Max-Ernest changed as a character.  At the beginning of the book, Max-Ernest was not funny at all.  An example of this was on page 26, during recess, he could not make anyone laugh for his life.  But on page 301, when he was talking with Cass, he made her laugh hysterically and she told Owen that his jokes were hilarious!
