The main reason we have seasons is because of Earth's tilt. The Earth is tilted at 23.5 degrees and rotates around the sun. There a winter solstice, a summer solstice, a fall equinox, and a spring equinox. A revolution is when the sun rotates around the earth. A revolution takes 365 days.
There is a day and night because of the tilt the Earth is on. The Earth rotates on its axis and when the tilt is pointing towards the sun it is day, and when it doesn't it is night. During the day you can receive direct and indirect sunlight.
