  • Revolution begins
  • Three different estates. First and second estate being the very wealthy and did not have to pay taxes while the third estate was 98% of the population and had to pay taxes. Also, King Louis and his wife racked up huge amounts of debt.
  • July 14
  • Majority rules. So when it came down to it, The third estate was stuck paying taxes. Well this time, they had enough.
  • Enlightenment Influences New Government
  • No more king!
  • We are indifferent
  • We want a king with limited power.
  • Citizens are called to action. King Louis barricades himself inside of the castle with Swiss army mercenaries.
  • Robespierre
  • Anyone who shows allegiance to the king shall be exiled!
  • King Louis loses all power. National Assembly gains power and creates the Declaration of Rights of Man.
  • The legislative branch split into three groups. Radicals (red); Moderates (black); and Conservatives (Blue).
  • Robespierre was the first ruler after King Louis. He went village to village looking for anyone still loyal to the king and kicked them out. He became tyrannical and started the reign of terror. After this, Napoleon took over thus ending the revolution.
