  • Enemies
  • Enemies
  • Friends
  • Dave Jensen and Lee Strunk got into a fight over a jackknife and Dave broke Lee's nose. After that, Jensen couldn't relax because he felt Strunk might get revenge on him.
  • Friends
  • Lee Strunk died on the medic chopper
  • Dave could no longer control himself and used a gun to fire at the air. He then broke his own nose and asked Strunk if they were friends again. Strunk said yes and later on he admitted that he stole the jackknife.
  • How to tell a true war story
  • Dave Jensen and Lee Strunk started to trust each other and made a pact that if one of them got badly hurt injured, then the other would kill them. One day in October, Lee Strunk stepped on a rigged mortar round which chopped his right leg at the knee.
  • How to tell a true war story
  • Lee panicked and told Jensen not to kill him and Jensen promised not to. Later, they received news that Strunk had died.
  • The author talks about how morals are never present in true war stories. Rat wrote a letter to Lemon's sister, who never wrote back, and later on we know that Lemon died when he stepped on booby-trapped 105 round when he was playing, exploding his whole body into pieces.
  • Sanders talks about an exaggerated story about soldiers who heard noises in the foggy jungle. The author then talks about the baby buffalo who was shot multiple times by Rat. At the end of the chapter, the author says that whenever he tells his stories, people stray off the main point, saying that a true war story is never about war but the things that made it up.
