In Thebes, there was King Lauis, Queen Jocasta, and their baby boy. The oracle had told the king and queen when their son grew older, he would kill his father and marry his mother.
The shepherd couldn't abandon him, so he decide to take him to childless king and queen of Corinth. They named him Oedipus which means "swollen foot" and they raise him as their son.
There was a Sphinx in Thebes but there was a riddle and whoever can solve it they could lift up the curse in the city. If the people can't solve the riddle, they would have consequences.
Oedipus encountered an old man who tried to cut him off the road and Oedipus killed the man but he doesn't know that old man was his father.
Oedipus married the queen but he doesn't know that he married his mother.
When Jocasta realizes that she married her son, she decides to kill herself but when Oedipus found out he married his mother, he made himself blind.
