My grandfathers were coal miners but both parents attended college, my dad after serving in WWII. 3 siblings went into the military, 2 attended 4-year universities, 1 community college, 1 vocational school, and 1 received a GED.
If I attended college, I knew I had to pay for it myself. I grew up in Iowa, bleeding black & gold so I applied to University of Iowa. I didn't visit it and the only research I did was on cost. I could pay for the first two years with my Long John Silvers savings.
I think I am involved and passionate about higher education because my college experience expanded my horizons so dramatically.
