Stephen Austin traveled to Mexico to ask to make Texas a separate Mexican state. The head of Mexican government, General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna arrested Austin and put him in jail for promoting rebellion. After Austin was released in 1835, Texans rose up in revolt. Santa Anna heard of this and marched north with 6,000 troops.
Santa Anna's army reached San Antonio. When they were in San Antonio they reached a Texan defended town. Santa Anna and his army said they will not surrender and then the Texans fired a cannon ball.
Texas Wins Its Independence
When the Texans were surrounded they sent out messengers. The messengers went out to get reinforcements. The reinforcements never ended up coming.
To Annex Texas or Not
The Mexicans and Texans fought for twelve days. They fought until Santa Anna ordered his troops to rush the fort. By the end of the day all of the Alamo troops were dead.
The Texans surprise attacked the Mexicans. The Texans killed most of the Mexicans. The Texans won for part of their independence.

There was a debate on to Annex Texas or to not. The U.S. finally ended up Annexing Texas.
