The Turkey originated In the Americas and were part of the Mayans and Aztecs culture. The Aztecs had festivals just for this animal and the mayans had ceremonies using parts of the turkey.
When Christopher Columbus entered the New World, he named these animals "tuka".
In 1519, Hernan Cortez and the conquistadors found the Emporeror of the aztecs, Montezuma, raising turkeys in his zoo for his people to eat.
The Conquistadors would bring some of these turkeys back with them to europe
