  • Can Japanese Sports Shoes Do to German Sports Shoes What Japanese Cameras Did to German cameras?
  • Phil Knight comes up with his "Crazy Idea" (symbol) to travel to Japan to try and strike a deal.  
  • Phil wrote a paper called  “Can Japanese Sports Shoes Do to German Sports Shoes What Japanese Cameras Did to German Cameras?” (Symbol) No one was impressed.
  • And to think no one liked my business idea in college.
  • (theme: follow your dreams) Phil was so determined to pursue his "Crazy Idea." He decided to pitch it to a few businessmen from the sneaker brand, Tiger, in Japan. They agreed and they started selling the shoe.
  • University of Oregon
  • The first year, Phil sold the shoes known as Blue Ribbon out of the trunk of his car at track meets across the country and made $8,000 in 1963.
  • The company now known as Nike has turned into a billion dollar business.
  • (Theme: Donate Money) They now give away $100 million each year. Right now, they are building a new basketball facility at the University of Oregon.
