Storyboard Text

  • Today class, we will be taking a field trip to learn about examples of pi in nature!
  • How can math even be found outdoors anyway?
  • Well, pi in nature is more common than you may think.
  • You see, in life, there are many different unexplained examples of spirals in nature, and it was a large mystery, almost not thought of, how this could be possible.
  • Wow! So do you mean things reoccurring patterns like flower petal patterns, Leopard prints and Zebra stripes?
  • Yep!
  • Who came up with this idea?
  • Well, there was a genius named Alan Turing, who noticed these patterns, and used the idea of pi to explain them
  • Wow!
  • He analyzed many patterns, including the waves in sand dunes! He gave so many others ideas for the uses of pi!
  • So cool!
  • Wow, I love math!
  • As you can see, pi does in fact have a large role in things we see in nature.
