Storyboard Text

  • A young Marquis de Sade was born Donatien-Alphonse-François, Comte de Sade in June of 1840.  He was born into French Aristocracy with his father being a diplomat for King Louis the  5th.  The elder de Sade was a quintessential libertine who partook in quite debaucherous acts with many a prostitute.  These acts of moral ineptitude became the life that the younger Sade assumed as normalcy.
  • Both his mother and father were extremely absent in his life and really only had servants to wait on him.  As instructed, the servants never denied a request from the young de Saude. This created a hot tempered, spoiled brat who never felt the consequences of his actions.  These traits led to the young de Sade beating another boy so brutally over a minor dispute that he was sent to southern France to live with his uncle, Abbe Jacques de Sade
  • "I believed from the time I could reason, that nature and fortune had joined together to heap their gifts upon me. I believed it because people were foolish enough to tell me so.  It is ridiculous prejudice that made me hotty, despotic, and angry. It seems that everything mist give into me so the whole world flatter my whims. That it was upon me to alone to conceive and satisfy them"  -Marquis de Sade
  • While Uncle Abbe Jaque de Sade was a priest of the Catholic Church, he was not a man who practiced what he preached
  • The abbe, while sworn to celebecy, frequently forwent these vows and, like the young marquis de Sade's father, enjoyed his sexual deviancy and pleasure.  It was de Sade's time with his uncle where he was first exposed to the hypocrisies of the catholic church of the time, and where it is believed he grew his initial disdain for Catholicism.
  • At the age of ten, de Sade was sent to catholic school in  at the Lycée Louis-le-Grand.  The arrogant de Sade did not mesh well with the authoritarianism of the school administrators.  The punishment at the school as whipping, and de Sade was no stranger to punishment at the school.  It was his many whippings at his 4 years of attending Lycée Louis-le-Grand that developed his sexual obsession with the act for the rest of his life.
