The Russo-Japanese War was a conflict between Japan and Russia. This war lasted a year from 1904 - 1905. These countries fought over the territory of Korea and Manchuria. Japan ended up victorious and the first Asian power defeat a European power.
World War I
Thousands of factory workers approached the czar's Winter Palace in St. Petersburg and asked for better working conditions. Nicholas ll's generals ordered to fire on the crowd which provoked more strikes and violence.
The Bolshevik Revolution
Women textile workers started a city wide strike in Petrograd, Russian. And riots flared due to bread and fuel shortages.
The Russian Civil War
Russian soldiers were not ready and were being mowed down by German troops. This had eventually revealed to the citizens and people of Russia the weaknesses of czarist rule.
Lenin and the Bolsheviks gained control of the Petrograd Soviet and also Soviets in other major cities to gain support. To keep nationalism in check they organized Russia in several self-governing republics.
The Russian Civil War was to tear Russia apart for three years – between 1918 and 1921. The civil war occurred because after November 1917, many groups had formed that opposed Lenin’s Bolsheviks.
