  • Mr. Mallard had been far away from the accident. Mrs. Mallard is surprised to see her husband.
  • When the doctors came they said she had died of "joy that kills." She was happy until she saw her husband appear at the door.
  • Marriages during this time period was often arranged. Women that were not married or women that were not happy were looked down upon. Women did not get divorced during this time.
