Scouts kerfuffle with Miss. Caroline on the first day of school
The Knot-Hole discoveries
In the beginning of part one the main characters such as Atticus, Scout, Jem, and Calpurnia are introduced
Jem retrieving his pant's
Walter Cunningham doesn't have his lunch so Miss. Caroline tries to give him a quarter. Scout tries to stand up and tell her that he won't take it because Cunningham's don't take anything they can't pay back. Miss. Caroline thought scout was being rude and got scout in trouble. Scout blamed Walter for this and fought him on the play ground
Miss. Maudie's house burning down
Scout and Jem found several things in the knot-hole of the tree on the Radley property such as chewing gum, grey twine, girl and boy dolls carved out of soap, a medal, a watch and pennies
Jem reading to Mrs. Dubose
Scout and Jem had been in the Radley yard and were scared out. In the process of running out of the yard Jems' pants got hung on the fence. He went back to retrieve them that night and they were folded over the fence as if someone was expecting them. This caused much confusion for Jem and Scout both.
Scout and Jem were woken up later that night to Miss. Maudie's house burning down. Atticus told Scout and Jem to stand away from the fire and they did. In the midst of all of this commotion Boo Radley came out and put a blanket on scout and she didn't even know it.
At then end of part one Jem had to go and read to Mrs. Dubose. She was a morphine addict and was having fits. The reading was a way of distracting her from the pain before she died. She passed away later in the chapter.
