Storyboard Text

  • Proclamation of 1763
  • We are moving west anyway!
  • This land is ours, but we are not allowed to move into it!
  • Quartering Act, 1765
  • Our barracks are full!
  • You have to give us housing and food.
  • Boston Massacre, 1770
  • This is not right! We are not being treated fairly!!
  • Parliament said that the colonists couldn't move West of the Appalachian Mountains. The colonists were annoyed, but they disobeyed and moved anyways. This was the first thing that Parliament did after the French and Indian War, which was the end of salutary neglect.
  • Boston Tea Party, 1773
  • No taxation with out representation!
  • Destroy the tea!
  • Parliament says that the colonists need to house and feed soldiers. The colonists are mad, because this is an invasion of their privacy. They also feel like they have been taken advantage of. This builds the tension between the British and the colonists.
  • Lexington and Concord, 1775
  • At the Boston Massacre, things get violent. Paul Revere makes it seem as if the British have shot at the colonists with an etching he made, making everyone upset. This adds more to the tension between the colonists and the British.
  • Declaration of Independence
  • The declaration has passed. Twelve colonies voted yes.
  • The colonists are destroying the tea as an act of defiance, showing that they will not pay unfair taxes. The colonists are being taxed without being represented, and that is why they feel it is unfair.
  • The colonists were able to prepare for the British, and they won. The colonists now believe that complete independence from Great Britain is necessary, because the British are tyrannical.
  • The Declaration of Independence passed, with twelve colonies voting yes. One colony abstained. This means that the colonists will have to go to war to win their freedom.
  • This means we will have to go to war.
