  • In the 1800s slaves were forced to work on plantations for no money. Many wanted to have their own life.
  • The slaves had to work no matter what the conditions were or they would be whipped.
  • they had to sleep in barns or small houses with many other slaves.
  • We don't want to work anymore.
  • Many slaves rebelled but the owners wouldnt let them free.
  • During the night some slaves ran away. This was very dangerous because there was severe punishment if they got caught
  • There's no slaves here.
  • During the day they would hide with the underground railroad "stationmasters".
  • The "stationmasters" hid the slaves in their houses at a great risk too 6 months of prison or $1000 fine.
  • Because of this, it led to the Cival war.
  • The underground railroad created hiding places, food, and transportation for fugitives.
