  • Holden doesn't talk like himself in this chapter, especially when he calls Faith Cavendish. He says that she "isn't exactly a whore or anything, but always good for a fun time". 
  • Thoughts
  • As Holden walks around the lavender room he meets many people and effects their night. He dances with the blonde girl who he says he thinks isn't that smart. But, as they're dancing he thinks in his head that she is a great dancer and still thinks she is pretty dumb.

  • As Holden arrive to Edmont Hotel he thinks to take his hat off before he goes in because he was scared to look like a "screwball". Later he would learn that everyone there looked like a screwball.

  • Chapter 9 Summary
  • Holden thinks that his siblings are smarter than he is. He talks about this when he is on his way to the Lavender Room. He wants to look the part when he heads down to the room and thinks of calling his little sister Phoebe. He really wants to be accepted by everyone and doesn't act like himself.
  • He wants to fit in with people by changing his clothes in order to get into the Lavender Room and get to know people in there. He ties to order a coke and rum, but is asked if he is twelve and gets a regular coke. He dances with a blonde and thinks in his head that she and her two friends are "morons", but still decides to dance with the blonde and has a conversation with her while dancing and he thinks that she is a great dancer.
