Travis was desperate for reinforcements. About 34 men from goliad was the highest they got. He Still had hope he'd get them though before the battle
At 5 a.m. on March 6, about 1,800 Mexican soldiers marched toward the Alamo. Most of them carried muskets and bayonets, long blades attached to the end of their guns. Some carried ladders. It was time for battle
The attack was devastating! Travis had already been killed defending the north wall and they were getting over the walls
By the third wave hundreds of troops had flooded the Alamo. The defenders retreated into the Alamo’s buildings to make a last stand. Most shut themselves inside the Long Barracks. A barracks is a building in which soldiers live. Crockett and some others took shelter in the Alamo’s chapel.
By 9 am The Battle was over and Santa Anna Had won. Only Survivors were children and wives of the defenders. But Texans did put up a good fight with killing about 600 Mexicans.
Although the texans lost there was still significance to the Alamo. While Santa Anna was distracted with the Alamo it gave time to to declare Texas independent, write a constitution, and set up a new government. nd while it scared some of the texans other were driven by it creating the phrase "Remember the Alamo"
