The villagers of a small town gather together in the square for the town lottery. In other towns, the lottery takes longer, but there are only 300 people in this village.
Mr. Martin and his oldest son, Baxter help Mr. Summers hold the box steady on the stool while Mr. Summers stirred up the papers inside it.
The lottery has commenced, and Dunbars and his spouse go up and pick the first paper out of everyone else.
It isn't fair.
Bill Hutchinson, grabs his ticket and he ends up winning the entire lottery so people start to get upset.
The Hutchinson family redraws their lottery ticket.
Bill Hutchinson's daughter, Tessa gets stoned to death.
